Bhadrachalam Yatra and Pancha Narasimha Kshetra

Bhadrachalam Yatra and Pancha Narasimha Kshetras - Dec 2021

Disclaimer : Adiyenin humble attempt of documenting the kshetradanam places to recollect the beautiful memories as every time when read it brings back the wonderful memories. This humble attempt being made from the inspiration of Smt.Vasumathy Rangarajan mami who also travelled in the same group as a yatri to Bhadrachalam. She is a veteran in the blog writing. Adiyen got inspired and also wanted to document the kshetradanam places that I visit. Kindly visit the below blog before reading my blog so that my "asatuthanam" can be forgiven😃😃😃

After repeated follow-up from the Yatra Consultant, Finally I have confirmed my booking for Bhadrachalam yatra on 15th November. As the Yatra was scheduled towards the year-end I was little skeptical to book considering the work schedule. However Lord Narasimha's mercy helped materializing leave plans & this yatra. I was keen to join this yatra predominantly for 2 things.

  1. Supreme almighty Sri Narasimha Dev ( who is our Kula Deivam or Inti Devudu or Manai Devaru )
  2. Sathsanga of Sri Agrani Krishna Dasa- Founder, CEO of Tirtha Yatra
Yes. Am a big fan of Sri Agrani Krishna Prabhu. I got to know from the yatra consultant that he himself will be the Yatra Director for this yatra. Hence I was very keen to join this yatra and offered my prayers to Sri Lakshmi Narasimha deity at my home. With the supreme almighty's blessings and grace all situations came in favor so that I could join this yatra, All glories to supreme Almighty Sri Lakshmi Narasimha swamy.

Day 0 : 22nd December

As it was just a day left before our yatra, Adiyen offered my prayers to the lotus feet of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha swamy deity at home {Veda Parayanam - Shivopasana Mantra, Narayana upanishad & few other }  & decided to take only the Neivedhyam offered as a prasadam & nothing else throughout the day. My wife had prepared Panagam, neermoru ( Special buttermilk) as neivedhyam.

It was indeed a great feeling when you take prasadam as your food & nothing else. With his grace I was able to manage through the day with just prasadam & nothing else.  Though the Flight ( Indigo ) was at the next day morning 05:30 AM ISt, had decided to leave home around night itself . This way atleast my wife and son can have a good sleep. Didn't want to bother them by leaving home at 3AM or so. { There is one more reason too ...}

Am sure the frequent flyers must be aware and maybe useful for those who are not familiar about this feature available in Airport. Generally in Big cities Airport the Longue access will be free for certain Debit or credit card holders. Using these cards one can get access to the Airport Premium longue for free for about 3 hours or so. The facility includes a less crowded zone waiting longue with good seating/sofa arrangements, refresh drinks ( coffee, Tea & soft drinks ) & a good food. All comes for free or 2 Rupees depending upon the type of the debit/credit card. In general this will cost 1500Rs per person. Instead of bothering the sleep time of my family, I decided to leave home the previous night and take some good rest in the Airport longue along with some good food too. 😉

Day 1 : 23rd December

Indigo Flight 6E 288 Departed from Bangalore as scheduled @ 05:30 AM IST and reached Visakhapatnam on time at 07 :00 AM IST. Airport is considerably good, neat and clean. As we reached Visakhapatnam, we waited for few yatris coming from Chennai and their flight was scheduled to reach at 08:00 AM IST. A good learning as a takeaway was one should complete the Bio-Breaks before coming out of the Airport. As once we come out after the baggage claim there is no guarantee there will be washrooms around. Had a tough time as the karma of eating in odd hours ( in Airport longue @ 2AM ) just because it's free has resulted in stomach upset & unfortunately I came out of the airport without using the washroom facility inside the airport. So had to wait till we reach our room booked by the yatra operators-Tirtha yatra.. Have warned the Chennai yatris not to do the same mistake in the WhatsApp group created 😃

@Visakhapatnam Airport

As soon as Chennai yatris reached, A beautiful Luxury bus bearing the name " Sri Ramamohana" came to pick all the yatris. It felt like As-if prahu Ramachandra only has come to pick all yatris. Reached hotel " Dwarakainn" around 10:30 AM . Mine was a twin-sharing where I must say it's really a blessing to share the room with a like minded yatri - Sri Bharath. He is also devotee of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha and his family god is also Sri Lakshmi Narasimha swami. We exchanged good conversation about Narasimhaji's temple in Tamilnadu, Karnataka and AndhraPradesh. After refreshing we were supplied with awesome breakfast { Sakkara Pongal, Venpongal, Chutney, Badam milk, fruit salad and coffee}

All Yatris were allowed to take rest till lunch as the yatra was technically scheduled to begin post lunch. We had a good introduction session from all yatris during lunch post which we were all geared-up to start our yatra

Self Introduction Session 😊

Yatris Ready to Begin the yatra under the leadership of Agrani Krishna Prabhu

 01. Sri Kurmanathaswamy temple, Srikurmam

Our first temple in this yatra was Sri Kurmanathaswamy temple, Srikurmam. The Kurmanathaswamy temple, also known as the Kurmanatha temple or Srikurmam temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Kurma – the second avatar of Vishnu. This temple represents the Samudra Mandan episode where both Asuras and Devas were churning the ocean to extract the Amrutha from the Ocean with the help of Vasuki where Lord Vishnu took the form of Tortoise and provided support to balance the mountain. The mountain was later taken by Garuda and kept in a place called Mandar in Bihar.

It is located in Srikurmam village, Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh, India. Built in the 11th-century in the Eastern Chalukyan style, this Dravida architecture temple was expanded in later centuries, and it is dedicated to Vishnu as Kurmanathaswamy and his consort Lakshmi as Kurmanayaki.Srikurmam is the only known pre-14th-century Indian temple that is dedicated to the Kurma avatar. The sanctum of Kurmanatha temple has both a tortoise image and the anthropomorphic Vishnu with Lakshmi. The temple was an important centre of Vaishnavism in the medieval period along with Simhachalam. Later Naraharitirtha, a disciple of Madhvacharya, was instrumental in making Srikurmam the seat of Vishnavite religious activities. The temple has two dhvajasthambas, 108 ekasila (single-stone) pillars, with none resembling each other. These bear numerous inscriptions. A tortoise park has been built within the temple to honor and conserve the adult and young star tortoises. The temple has primarily Vaishnava iconography and murals, but also reverentially includes Shaiva (Ganesha, Shiva) and Shakti (Lakshmi, Durga) icons.

02. Suryanarayana Temple, Arasavalli

Arasavalli Sun Temple is a temple for Lord Surya (Sun god) at Arasavalli in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is situated in Arasavalli Village at a distance of 1 km east of Srikakulam Town. It is believed that the temple was originally built by the 7th century CE king Devendra Varma, a ruler of Kalinga. However, the present structure is largely a result of 18th century renovations. The temple is still being visited today and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the town. This temple is considered one of the oldest sun temples in India

It is one of the ancient and all among two sun God temples in our Country. The other is the Konark Sun Temple. The Temple was dedicated to the Hindu sun god Surya. According to Padmapuranam, Sage Kasyapa installed the Idol of Surya at Arasavalli for the Welfare of mankind. The walls in the temple are inscribed saying the creator of the temple was the ruler Devendra Varma, stating it was built in the time period known to them as the 7th century. The walls also state the temple was fixed and changed a bit to help with some of the sun temple's major flaws during their 18th and 19th century.  The temple fell into despair over the centuries and was reconstructed in 1778 CE by Elamanchili Pullaji Panthulu. Over the years the Sun temple has been an important landmark for many of the festivals celebrated in the town including the important festival Rathasaptami.

The temple is very much recognized as a resemblance of magnificence and beauty. It takes in architectural skills of Vishwakarma Brahmins or Maharanas of Odisha. The temple is built in such a way that the early morning rays of the sun fall on the feet of the deity twice a year (Uttaraynam - March 9-11 and Dakshinayam - October 1-3), even when the 5 entrance gates are closed.

By the time we reached room it was already 09 PM or so. Our dinner was prepared and kept ready. We received strict instruction from our yatra director as " After Mum-mum only Thachi " How nicely he has passed this strict instruction without making the yatris feel like commanding.
Agrani Prabhu is Truly the best Yatra Director with so much of knowledge yet very humble.

During our journey to Srikurmam temple in the bus roughly about 3 hours he explained so many things like who is Bhagavan or who should be considered as Bhagavan. Today this word is being used as Mr. and Mrs. by so many people. Agrani Krishna Prabhu explained what shastra says about who is Bhagavan. Also He spoke about What is meant by Avatar and what are the types of avatar ( This is not about Dasavathar of Vishnu ). Here he explained about Avatars based on the shastra puranas.
To name a few the Avatars he called out from the Sastra purana are Sakthiavesha avatar, purusha avatar, chaturvyuga avatar, Manavanthana Avathar, Gunavanthana Avatar, Yuga avathar,Leela Avatar, Qualities of Naryana as avatar and Poorna Avatar. It was truly nectar for the hear as we listen to all these. He also described about the universe formation and how the supreme almighty is residing in each and every living being in this planet/universe as Paramathma ( super soul )

Day 2 : 24th December

We had to check-out the hotel as per TST standards ( Tirtha Yatra Standard Timing ). Yes mostly the check-outs will be early morning from the hotel during the yatra with Tirtha Yatra. Though it may sound little inconvenience but you will realize the benefit as you proceed to the next destination. we checked out our hotel around 06:00 AM IST and loaded our luggages to the bus. This time we had the Cooks also joining us along with their luggages. Tirtha Yatra had got wonderful cooks onboard who prepared delicious sattvic food for all of us through out the yatra. This is another key benefits travelling with Tirtha yatra apart from most knowledgeable multi lingual yatra directors, Sthala puranas. It indeed took some time than anticipated to settle down all the luggages into the bus due to the additional luggages from cook, However It all got sorted & we departed from Visakhapatnam Dwarakainn hotel around 07:30 AM IST after finishing the breakfast. Our Next destination was Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha temple, Simhachalam which about 45 minutes from our hotel.

03. Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha temple, Simhachalam.

As we reached Simhachalam foot hills, our bus was parked in the designated parking location and all of us walked towards the state government bus station counter. Yes. It looks like private buses or vehicles are not allowed to climb the hill and one should take the government bus which is available every 5-10 minutes. The journey in the Simhachalam was not long and less than 30 minutes but still was a nice and wonderful journey where the entire bus was filled by our group only. There was hardly one or two localities. One of the yatri ( Bhanumathi mami ) had reserved the front seat for me to take photos/videos. Bhanumathi mami is also a very enthusiastic personality with so much of devotion to Lord Ranganatha. She is also very good in taking photos and sharing it instantly in the WhatsApp group. It's truly a blessing for me to join this yatra along with such senior devotees who are very much knowledgeable and have dedicated most of their time in Devotion to the supreme lord. Having seated in the front or first seat of the bus ( adjacent to the driver ) took a complete coverage of the bus climbing the Simhachalam hill. Sri varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamiki Jai.🙏

My New Extended Family

Agrani Krishna Prabhu Giving Instructions to All Yatris
{ Taka Taka Going, Taka Taka Coming 😃}

Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha temple, Simhachalam is a Hindu temple situated on the Simhachalam Hill Range, which is 300 metres above the sea level in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped there as Varaha Narasimha. As per the temple's legend, Vishnu manifested in this form (lion's head and human body) after saving his devotee Prahlada from a murder attempt by the latter's father Hiranyakashipu. Except on Akshaya Trutiya, the idol of Varaha Narasimha is covered with sandalwood paste throughout the year, which makes it resemble a linga.

Please click https://www.tirthayatra.org/simhachala-narasimha/  for more details about the temple history and Sthala purana. Kappastambam and various form of Narasimha on the temple shrine pillars/walls is a must visit inside the temple. I missed to make a note of the names of all Narasimha.

Our Lunch was already prepared by the cooks and we had our lunch on the way. If I remember it right it was a wonderful Bisibelebath and Curd rice & a Sweet. Everyone of us was really hungry and and the yatra coordinator was looking for the right spot to park the vehicle to have our lunch. We finally got a wonderful place just in front of a Durga temple. We all were very much thankful to mother Durga, Yatra Coordinator ( Mr. Bhatt ji )  & to our Sarathy ( Driver) for stopping the vehicle  for lunch in such a shelter where we had a good shadow under the shelter of Sri Durga Devi temple

04. Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy

Annavaram is one of the most famous Holy Shrines in India and enjoying second place after Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is built in the Dravidian style. The glory and richness of Lord SATYADEVA was widely described in Revakhanda of Skandapuranam. The presiding deity Lord Satyadeva with his consort Sri Anantha Lakshmi on one Side and with Lord Siva on the other side took his abode on Ratnagiri, which is named after Ratnakara, son of Meru the king of holy mountains. Like in all Divyakshetrams as surrounded and followed by holy rivers, Sri Satyanarayana Swamy at Annavaram is also followed by sacred Pampa River touching the feet of the hill. Lord Satyadeva the god of truth is showering his eternal blessings on mankind in his beautiful manifested form of the DIVINE TRINITY namely Hari Hara Hiranya Garbha Thrimurtyatmaka. Hence this is the temple that is attracting the Pilgrims of both Vishanava and Saiva devotees and thousands of pilgrims from all over the Country are worshiping Lord Satyadeva every day forgetting all sectional differences.

It is believed that the place was known for constant food distribution (free feeding) by the benevolent people of the locality and that therefore the place was called by the name Annavaram(annam means food in Telugu). Another version is that because the presiding deity of the place blesses the devotees with anina varam (pronounced or wanted boon), the place is called Annavaram.

With the Extended family of Yatris after Darshan

After visiting Annavaram temple we reached Rajahmundry and our rooms were booked in Hotel Aditya Palace near sai krishna theatre. Also this hotel is very near to ISKCON Rajahmundry, Sri Sri Radha Gopinath Dasavatar Mandir. Since we reached hotel around 8 PM the cooks needed some time to prepare the food for dinner. Hence Myself along with Bhanumathi mami & Ravindran mama decided to quickly rush to ISKCON temple and take the darshan of Sri Sri Radha Gopinath ji. It was indeed a great timing as if Lord Krishna was waiting for us to give his darshan with temple closing time was fast approaching. Had a wonderful darshan and Prasadam . Reached hotel for dinner. Had a light dinner as again we need to checkout the hotel the very next day as per TST Timings for our next destination Ryali

Day 3 : 25th December

We checked out our hotel as per TST timings and finished our breakfast before leaving the hotel and departed around 07:30 AM IST.  Yatra Director had suggested all the yatris to take only 2 pair of dresses and other necessary personal stuffs when we checked in the previous night. This has really helped a lot in saving time instead of unloading and loading the luggages of all 34 yatris. This really shows the experience in their planning and decision making abilities according to the given situation.

05. Sri Jagan Mohini Kesava Swami and Gopala Swamy temple, Ryali

Ryali is located 40 Km from Rajahmundry and it is situated between the rivers Vashista and Gautami, tributaries of river Godavari, this is the site of the renowned Jagan Mohini Kesava Swamy temple. The exquisite idol, made of black stone depicting Maha Vishnu and Mohini on its front and rear sides, is a real marvel of sculptural dexterity. Have captured the Godavari river that we came across on the way to Ryali.

According to the legend “Bhagavatam” while Devatas and Rakshas were quarrelling over sharing of holy Divine nectar “Sree Maha Vishnu” came to the rescue of Devatas in the guise of Mohini and convinced both the rivalry groups promising to distribute holy Devine nectar in equal share to Devatas and Rakshas. But in the interest of universal peace and welfare of sages, holy and Divine nectar was distributed among Devatas alone and the Mohini disappeared.

Lord Siva having seen the most fascinating beauty of Mohini allured her. He pursued her for a while, in the presence of his consort Parvathi Devi. It is the general belief that the holy incident was the result of birth of “AYYAPPA SWAMY”. One flower from the plait of Mohini fell down and it was smelt by Lord Siva. Then he surprisingly found “Sree Maha Vishnu” in the form of Mohini and felt shy for his behavior. The place where the flower from the plait of Mohini fell is named as RYALI the Telugu meaning of “Fall”.

06. Sri Venkateswaraswamivari Temple, Dwaraka Tirumala :

“Dwaraka Tirumala” is an ancient holy place and a popular pilgrim center in Andhra Pradesh of South India. This pilgrimage centre is called  "Dwaraka Tirumala" after the great saint, "Dwaraka" who located the self manifested idol of Lord "Sri Venkateswara" after severe penance in a ‘Valmikam’ (ant hill). The devotees call Sri Venkateswara as Kaliyuga Vaikunta Vasa. This place is also called “Chinna Tirupati”.

As per Sastras North Indian rivers like Ganges and Yamuna are considered to be more and more holy as they go up to the origin and south Indian rivers like Krishna and Godavari are more and more holy as they go down the river to its mouth to the Sea. It is why there are numerous shrines and holy bathing ghats, at close intervals, on both sides of the great grand rivers Krishna and Godavari in their lower regions.

The region covered by Dwaraka Tirumala is commanding the top most conspicuous position in India, being garlanded by these two great Indian rivers Krishna and Godavari, as pointed out by Brahma Purana.

The devotees who wish to go and offer their donations, or tonsures or any other offerings to Lord Venkateswara, Lord of Tirumala Tirupati, called as “Pedda Tirupati”, due to some reason, if they are unable to go there, they can offer their donations, prayers and worship in Dwaraka Tirumala temple.

For more details please visit : http://www.dwarakatirumala.org/temple.html

As the temple is almost following the strict rules like in Tirumala Tirupati where mobile and any other electronic items are not allowed had to keep my mobile in the bus itself. However Managed to have one click from some strangers phone and got them shared to my WhatsApp ( Workaround )

With Extended family of Yatris after Darshan

We had our lunch before the darshan as it was almost 01:30 PM IST and all of us were in hunger.
It was indeed a good call as there was a break time between 1 PM to 3 PM .It would have been a disaster if we would have gone to darshan without taking the food. Again Timely decision from the Yatra director. We had to wait for approximately 30 minutes till the break time finishes and we finished our darshan without waiting for long time. But as mentioned earlier no difference than Tirumala. Here also " jarugandi jarugandi " only.. Could see Perumal for only few seconds which is still ok instead of waiting for hours in the long queue. Though it was only for a few seconds, we were sent via athiseegra darshan queue and could have the darshan very near. After Dwaraka Tirumala, our next destination was Bhadrachalam with dinner enroute. It was again a good call by the yatra director to finish the dinner on the way as the roads to Bhadrachalam is not a highway and not in a good condition which will slow down the travel. Hence Yatra director has informed the cooks to prepare the food for dinner while we all went to take the darshan of Sri venkateswaraswami. We were served with hot  upma around 08:30 PM somewhere on the way to Bhadrachalam ( we were about 1:30 hrs. away ) So Making dinner after 10PM and then dinner for all sr. citizen would have been a disaster...Again Agrani Prabhu's timely decision making and experience played a vital role to ensure the care for yatris is paramount priority.

We Reached Bhadrachalam around 10:30 PM. The two hotels booked were very near to the temple just few minutes away by walk. We all were tired but at the same time very eager to take the darshan of Prabhu Sri Ramachandra in the unique form along with his consort Sita devi & brother Lakshmana ( Incarnation of Adhisesha )

Day 4 & 5 : 26th & 27th December

07. Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple, Bhadrachalam:

Day 1: Tirtha Yatra Director - Sri Agrani Krishna Dasa Prabhu had arranged Abhisheka seva for those who had given their names. Abhisheka seva happens only on Sundays around 07:30 PM where the tickets need to be bought in advance. As Adiyen didn't plan for Abhisheka seva, had an opportunity to attend the Suprabhata seva but as it was sunday there was heavy rush & could not grab a seat during the seva but had a wonderful darshan after the suprabhata seva. The Keerthans sung by the temple priest or designated singers was a true nectar to ears. As Yatris were attending the Abhisheka seva, Adiyen also visited Sri Ahobila Lakshmi Narasimha temple on the banks of Godavari river in Bhadrachalam. The 3 nights and 2 days of Stay in Bhadrachalam was a life time experience where nothing but Prabhu Ramachandra was running in everyone's mind. Lunch provided in Bhadrachalam was really a feast.

For more details about Bhadrachalam Temple visit https://www.tirthayatra.org/bhadrachalam/

On 26th December afternoon post lunch, our Yatra Director took us to a place called Parnasala which is only 30-40 minutes away from Bhadrachalam. According to legend, it is said the "Lord Sri Rama "spent some of the 14 years of exile at this location. The locals believe that Sita, the beloved consort of "Lord Sri Rama" bathed in the stream here and dried her clothes on "Radhagutta" where the imprints are seen even today. The demon king "Ravana" parked his Pushpaka on the hillock on the opposite side of the river and abducted her. An earthen ditch reportedly caused when Ravana removed earth to carry off Sita to Lanka can be seen here. Another Hindu legend names Parnashala as the location where Rama killed Maricha, who came in disguise of a golden deer to deceive Sita.

With Extended family of yatris @Parnasala, Sokha Rama temple

On the Evening our Yatra Director had arranged wonderful Upanyasam from the Head Priest of Bhadrachalam temple. It was truly a blissful experience to listen from such a great personality in the front row. Also one of the young talented yatri performed a nice keerthan on Rama. Totally out of words experience.. The Evening was truly loaded with Spiritual thoughts and Prabhu Ramachandra. Adiyen had planned to attend the Ekanda seva in the night but as it was Sunday decided to attend ekanda seva on Monday as per the advise from Yatra director. All sevas will have rush on Sundays.

Day 2: Woke-up at 02:00 AM In the morning and few of us rushed to the Suprabatha seva again. Stood in the queue from 03:30 AM onwards. As the Temple Door opened at 4:00 AM all of us together said " Jai Sri Ram " The energy and the instant reaction as the door opened can't be explained in words. It is the power of supreme almighty's abode. Had a wonderful Darshan during the Suprabatha seva and this time Prabhu Ramachandra had bless us with the front row of seat and it was truly truly blissful Nectar experience to both the ears and eyes where Ears listening to the designated priest singing the suprabatham song and Eyes watching the beauty of Prabhu Sri Ramachandra along with his consort Sitadevi and brother Lakshmana. After the Suprabatha seva, few yatris attended Kalyanotsava seva .In Bhadrachalam, there will be nityakalyanotsava happening for Prabhu Sri ramachandra and Sita devi ( daily ). After this All of us had Godavari Snana in the Godavari river. It was a feast again in the lunch and after which we all had a good rest. In the evening, all of us attended the Dharbar seva where the same yatri who performed the keertan was given an opportunity to perform in the presence of the Prabhu Sri Ramachandra in kalyanotsava mandapa.

Yet another evening filled with spirituality and the grace of Prabhu sri Ramachandra. After Darbaar seva few of us attended Ekanda Seva as well which is the last seva for any given day after which the temple closes. As the day finishes we all had to get ready to check-out from the hotel as per TST timings .( Tirtha Yatra Standard Timings )

Overall the Experience in Bhadrachalam temple for the 2 full days was a lifetime experience. It feels like the purpose of taking human life is fulfilled after this 2 days of experience in Bhadrachalam.
Jai Sri Ram🙏

Day 6 : 28th December

As mentioned earlier, We checked-out much earlier than the TST standards around 05:30 AM IST.
As we walked towards the bus it was full of fog and less visibility. However it was a different experience altogether walking on the streets in the midst of fog as a group & a couple of them had come near the bus but couldn't identify the bus as it was full of fog. Had a wonderful Coffee in that weather before we started to our next destination. Once again It was really a blissful experience and All glories to Prabhu Sri Ramachandra and Tirtha Yatra for arranging such a wonderful yatra.

Here comes our next big agenda of the yatra- Pancha Narasimha Kshetras namely Vedadri, Matapalli, vadapalli, Mangalagiri and Kethavaram.

08. Sri Yogananda Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Vedadri

Among the several shrines of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy that flourished on the holy banks of river Krishna Vedadri is an important one.

“Bramhand purana” says that Somaksura a demon stole the four Vedas from Lord Bramha and hid himself in the Ocean. Lord Bramha then approached his father Lord Srimannarayana murthy and Prayed for the restoration of Vedas. Lord Srimannarayana Murthy in ‘Matsyavathara’ (Fish) entered the Ocean, killed the demon Somakasura and brought back the Vedas in tact. The Vedas, in human from thanked the lord for his kind gesture in saving them, Prayed to stay with them on their heads. There upon the Lord munificently granted their Prayer but said that the would do that only after killing another demon Hiranya Kasapa and saving his son prahalda. The Lord also assured the Vedapurushas that he would stay with them as panchamurthy only. So saying the Lord bid them till such time to remain in the river Krishnaveni as Saligrama mountain. Lord told them that Krishnaveni also prayed to allow her to worship him everyday and that the granted her the boon. He assured the Vedapurshas that both the prayers would be granted simultaneously. According to the bid of the Lord the Veda purashas remaind in Krishnaveni as Saligrama mountain.

09. Sri Yogananda Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Matapalli

This Mahakshetram is situated on the banks of river Krinaveni & is 140km from Vijayawada.
Thayar thirunamam: Rajya Lakshmi Thayar
Moolavar: Shree Yoganandha Lakshmi Narasihmar.
Vimanam: Brahmaanandha Nilaya Vimanam.
Theertham: Krishnaveni Theertham.
Rishi aradhana Kshetram: Sri Bharadwaja Maharishi worshiped in this place

Sri Mukkoor Lakshmi Narasimhacharaiyar has done many swathi yagnas in this kethram. He has opened a goshala here.

The Maha Kshetram is in the midst of a dense and lovely forest, which instills awe and inspiration in the minds of the visiting pilgrims.

In one of the caves adjoining the pilgrim town, the image of the Lord has been radiating glory from times immemorial. Legend had it that Sri Bharadwaaja Maharshi worshipped this deity everyday accompanied by several other sages. In those unknown times, only sages and gods could worship the self revealed images of Narasimha in the cave. The sages who had the welfare of this world at their heart decided to throw open this holy place to the common man. An auspicious time for this came in during the Kali Yuga.

The deity was revealed in a dream to the devotee Sri Anumala Machireddi, the ruler of Thangeda which is 3 km off Mattapalli on the opposite bank of river Krishna. The Lord wished Machireddi to reveal his image for the good of the mankind during Kali Yuga.

The ruler accompanied by his pandits, searched all the caves on the banks of river Krishna, as ordained by the Lord, but could not trace the location of the deity. Sad and depressed, he fell asleep in the forest. Again the Lord appeared in his dream and ordained him to search further, in a designated area near an “Aare” tree hidden behind the foliage in a cave.

Waking up, the ruler found the cave and the image of the Lord in a seated posture, with the wellspread hood of Sesha over his head, fully adorned with Shankha Chakra Gadha and as if the Lord was being worshipped regularly, with flowers, sacred leaves, fruits etc. Overjoyed, the ruler revealed the Maha Kshetram to the general public and constructed a Mukhaalaya.

10. Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Vadapalli

Purana says 6000 years back Agyasthya muni brought the Siva Kesava idols and he wanted to install them. He was traveling through all Lokas and finally he landed in Bholokaham, as he was heading towards Kasi kshetram, he heard akasa vani saying that Lord Narashima wanted to be installed at this place where sangamam of River Krishna and River musi.

Agyastayar installed and constructed a temple for Lord Narashimar. As the years passed there were lots of changes and the temple was not taken care and the main deity was covered by ant hill.

During 12th century Reddy Kings developed their city and at that time they found the deity of Narashimar and they re constructed the temple and installed the main deity.

The temple is small one and has lot of place, around it with trees and plants. We see Dwjasthanbam near the entrance and Garuda near the Dwajasthambam. As we enter inside we have the darshan of Jaya, Vijayan to either side of the entrance. We have to enter into artha mandapam and inside in the main sanctum we have the darshan of Lord Lakshmi Narashima swamy. There is no separate sanctum for Goddess. This is the only sanctum in the temple.

This is a unique thing about the Lord of this place. The deepam here is Akanda Deepam

Sri Meenakshi Agasteswara Swamy temple is located at Vadapally formerly known as Vazeerabad, Nalgonda district. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva along with Goddess Parvathi. Saint Agasthya installed the Shiva Lingam so Lord Shiva and Maa Parvathi are worshiped here as Agasteswara and Meenakshi.

This temple is located at the confluence of River Krishna and Musi (Muchikunda) at Wadapally village. Wadapally was earlier known as Wazeerabad. This is situated at a distance of 25 km from Miryalaguda and 70 Km from Nalgonda and 170 km from Hyderabad. The nearest Railway station is Vishnupuri (6km) between Bibinagar- Nadikudi Railway stations.
This is an ancient Siva Temple with a huge Siva Lingam of 6000 years old. The Lingam was installed by sage Agasthya. Siva and Maa Parvathi are worshipped here as Agastheeshwara and Meenakshi. The Temple was built in 12 th century by Kakatiya rulers. It attracts large number of devotees in karteeka month and on Shivaratri days.

SPECIALITY: There is a crevice at the top of Siva Linga. This is always with full of water and even on removal it maintains the same level. There is no logical explanation for this phenomenon as the temple is located at a height of about 120 metres from the river water level. Priests show this phenomenon also explains sthala purana as under:

STHALA PURANA: For thousands of years the Temple remained in dense forest. Once a hunter was chaging a bird and the bird hid behind the Siva Linga to save its life. Lord Siva appeared before the hunter and asked him not to kill the bird and offered him to take his brain and the hunter inserted his fingures on the head of the Linga for the purpose and in the process the crevice was caused.
The Temple opens at 6:30 am and closes by 7.30 pm. In between also closed for a few hours from noon.

SANGAM: There are quite number of steps / slope to the Sangam where River Musi joins River Krishna. Private Boat facilities are available to take a ride in the Krishna river.

NEARBY : About 400 metres away is famous and ancient SRI LAKSHMI NARASIMHA SWAMY TEMPLE which is one of the Pancha (five) Narasimha Kshetras on the banks of River Krishna, other four being Mattapalli (Nalgonda dt); Vedadri (Krishna); Mangalagiri & Ketavaram (Guntur). The specialty of the Deity there is the Lord breaths in and out. Two lit lamps are at place before the Idol. The one at the face of the Lord quivers to testify this while the other kept below remains resolutely. This is an ‘akhanda’ Deepam and devotees are seen offering oil to the priests. The timings here are 7 am to 11 am and from 6 to 7.30 pm.

It was really a packed day with 3 Important Narasimha temple visit. Both Breakfast and Lunch was enroute only with simple and light breakfast so as the lunch too. We had our breakfast somewhere on the way to vedadri inside panchamuga Hanumanji temple and for lunch in Matapalli again inside the temple corridor. After completing 3/5 Narasimha kshetras we reached our next destination Viajayawada where our rooms were booked in Hotel Iris Park Prime. Had a good rest after dinner to get ready for the next day as per TST timings. 😊

Day 7 : 29th December

It was Swathi Nakshatra day, A very auspicious day to take the darshan and blessings of Sri Narasimha Swamy as it's his own Nakshatra. Hence the Yatra director decided to complete the pending 2 Narasimha on the same day itself ( Mangalagiri and Kethavaram ). Mangalagiri is in the radius of 20-30 minutes from our hotel whereas kethavaram was truly an adventure.

11. Panakala Narasimha Swamy temple, Mangalagiri

A very special temple of Lord Narasimha where he drinks Panaka or jaggery water from his devotees. You can buy the jaggery water by buying a ticket and will give it to the priest .

The priest will then feed the lord the panaka of which he takes in half and gives out another half as prasadam. The temple is very serene and peaceful. The temple authorities have made arrangements for peaceful conduct of this and you will get the glass of panaka once you come out as prasadam.

A surprising thing  is that even though so much panaka is dealt with within this temple from almost all devotees there is not a single ant in this temple complex. The temple is closed in the afternoons as they say that gods come for worship so plan the visit properly.

There is also a shrine for Goddess Lakshmi here. Below the hill there is also a temple of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha swamy. a very serene and powerful temple of the lord which is very old and must visit to all devotees.

12. Sri Vajra Narasimha Swamy temple, Kethavaram

After Mangalagiri, We proceeded towards kethavaram which was almost 3 hours of travel to reach the village. It involves narrow road where vehicle passing both ways at the same time was near to impossible. Only retired drivers from circus can make through. Our Sarathy was proficient enough to handle the situation even though he hasn't worked in any circus company previously. Once we reached the village which is basically on the bank of river Krishna another adventurous journey was waiting for us. There were 3 fisherman boats waiting for us to take us to the other side through Krishna river. Once we reached the other side of the river we had another level of task to accomplish before having the darshan of our 5th Narasimha. It was almost 2PM and all of us were already in hunger. The task was to climb around 300 Steps to reach the temple. It was really a testing but thankfully Narasimha showed his mercy on us where the temple priest had arranged a person who has guided us throughout the narrow roads (kind of road ),came with us in the boat & also one small vehicle was waiting on the other side of the river for us to take us to the hill top. It was a complete off-road drive climbing the hill. It was completely an unforgettable experience for each one of us.

All of us had completely forgotten about the hunger and meal but enjoyed these adventurous journey to take the darshan of supreme almighty lord Narasimha. As we reached the temple, Priest welcomed us with a smiling face and performed special Archana to the lord. He also took us to the thayar sannidhi and performed Archana. The Priest was very much dedicated and he indeed had to pass through all the above mentioned challenges to come to temple to perform the Nithya pooja.

It was almost dark as we finished the darshan. Also we had our lunch in the Kethavaram temple corridor itself after darshan. We returned to our hotel around 9PM in the night. Yatra Director has let all the yatris free on the next day ( last day ) for any local shopping/site seeing etc. He also recommended to visit undavalli caves which some of the yatris visited.

Day 8 : 30th December

As mentioned Earlier, All the yatris were let free on this day as some of them had return train in the noon and some had shopping plans in Mangalagiri. Since Adiyen didn't have any plans have visited panakala Narasimha again in the morning along with my room mate as it was Ekadashi day. Had a wonderful darshan of panakala narashima swamy second time in a row. Returned room and took good rest. Had a wonderful feast again for lunch. As it was the last day of the yatra there were lot of varieties prepared by the cooks. Most of the yatris checked out and left the hotel to catch their return flight to chennai/bangalore while adiyen spent some more time in the hotel itself as my return train was around 10:50 PM IST to Bangalore. Boarded the train on time and had a good sleep carrying all the beautiful memories of this Bhadrachalam Yatra & Pancha Narasimha kshetra.

Day 9 : 31st December

Reached Bangalore Whitefield Station around 11 AM and reached home in 15 minutes safe.

It was indeed a wonderful Yatra with so much of blissful experience, Sathsanga, Bhagavada sanga, amazing upanyasam, Sthala purana from the Yatra director, extremely good & sattvic food and finally wonderful darshan of preceding deities in all the temples. Its only because of the supreme almightys wish and will all the yatris could take the darshan otherwise reaching some of these places itself is very difficult. On that note Tirtha Yatra is doing a fantastic service of taking the devotees to unexplored, Unique, Shastra based puranic temples. Long Live Tirtha yatra and the team.

What a kshethradam experience by you Prasanna. Amazing. No words to say. You virtually took me to all 12 temples. In fact I went thro a very nice experience by seeing the videos and photos as if I visited in person. Narrating your experience right from your departure from Blore airport till you were back was very live. I really enjoyed your trip experience. My kudos to thiryhayathra team who made wonderful arrangements considering all senior citizens, I could see the kind of enjoyment they had in all their faces in the photos.
